Kevin Krigger from the U.S. Virgin Islands will race in this weekend’s Kentucky Derby

The 139th running of the Kentucky Derby this weekend will feature Kevin Krigger who was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Kevin Krigger was born on October, 23, 1983 - ST CROIX, VI USA. He moved to the USA at age 18 and won his first race in the Santa Anna Derby in 2001, climbed the ladder, winning 139 races in 2005 before slipping to 11 wins in 2008-09, before regaining his footing and winning 165 races in 2011. Krigger is the first African-American jockey to ride in the Derby in more than a decade.

Alf Valentine became the first West Indian to take 100 Test wickets when he bowled Jim Laker in his 19th Test at Bourda 1953-54

Alf Valentine, the first West Indian to take a hundred Test wickets, was born on April 28, 1930. Abhishek Mukherjee looks back at one half of the spin duo that had once taken the cricket world by storm.

If you came across Alf Valentine on a random road, pub, or park, the fact that he could be a cricketer would have hardly crossed your mind. Lean, tall, bespectacled, toothy, and very un-sportsmanly in appearance, Valentine could have passed for any other professional barring a cricketer.

Chris Gayle the West Indian Batsman from Kingston Jamaica has set the IPL T20 on fire with the fastest ever century. Scoring 100 from 30 balls and went on to 175 not out from 66 balls demonstrated his skill, power, tenacity, concentration, temperament and much more.

If there is a man (person) who can bridge all cultures with his superb talent then Christopher Henry Gayle is that man/person. People all over India are asking for Chris Gayle.

Chris Gayle can shatter dreams. Ask Ishwar Pandey, the highest wicket-taker in this year's Ranji Trophy who got smashed for 21 in his first over this IPL.

Ask Mitchell Marsh, whose decent run with the ball this IPL was blown out of his memory with first over going for 28.

Ask Aaron Finch, the third captain for Pune Warriors this season who bowled an over hoping to restrict Gayle but didn't bowl again after being blasted for 29.

Garry Sobers provides glimpses of his greatness to come on his Test debut

Gary Sobers, arguably the greatest cricketer of all times, made his Test debut on March 30, 1954. Abhishek Mukherjee looks back at the stepping-stone of an amazing career.

West Indies had won the first two Tests of the 1953-54 home series, but England clawed their way back to win the third Test. After a drawn fourth Test, the teams met at Kingston for the crucial final Test. To quote EW Swanton, “a slim, remarkably loose-limbed left-hander” made his debut in that Test.
